A £100,000 skatepark on Canvey could receive a huge boost if plans finally submitted to Castle Point Council are approved.
If the proposal, which has been in the offing for more than a year, gets the thumbs up from the planning committee on Tuesday, August 31, £24,000 of lottery money will be freed up for the project.
The skaters' paradise would be situated on a 50m by 40m plot of land by Waterside Farm sports centre, in Somnes Avenue.
Spokesman Dennis Williams said the skate partnership - which includes regeneration group Canvey 2000, Castle Point Council, the police and the Essex Youth Service - was quietly confident there would be no problems securing planning permission for the skatepark.
He said: "We have to have the documents which show we have planning permission for the skatepark before the money we applied for from the lottery can be handed over.
"We've been told £24,000 has been ring-fenced by them on our behalf and that the money will be released as soon they have the relevant documents."
