A plumbing company is to shake up the way it runs its business in Colchester, it has been revealed.

Plumbase, which has 140 branches across the UK, is to withdraw its in-house distribution in the eastern region, which covers East Anglia and Essex.

A spokesman for the company said: "What happens at present is the manufacturers supply the goods to the distribution centre, who then send them out to shops.

"What we are planning to do is cut the middle part, so the manufacturers supply direct to the shops."

The in-house distribution centre for the Eastern region is based in Wyncolls Road, Severalls industrial estate, Colchester, and 16 members of staff work there.

The spokesman said there were no plans to close the facility down and hoped those that worked there would continue in its new capacity.

He added the company was looking at options on how best to use the centre.

The spokesman said: "Plumbase has been in full consultation with the employees who work at the centre about this decision."
