For the first time ever, Southend Carnival next month is including a Brazilian club night in its week of festivities.

Billed as the "official carnival drum 'n' bass party", the event is being organised by Kevin Malloy, of Merryfield Approach, Leigh, and will be held at the Royal Hotel, High Street, on Thursday, August 19, from 8pm.

Using DJs Marky and Patife as inspiration, Kevin will be playing a set of Brazilian drum 'n' bass and Paul Tait will be playing a mixture of house music, beats, breaks and anything with a Brazilian carnival vibe.

Entry is £4 and all proceeds will go to local charities supported by the carnival association.

Having spent three months in Brazil and experienced the energy of the famous Carnival event, Mr Malloy decided when he came home to Leigh he would like to inject a bit of Brazilian magic into Southend's own event.

He said the whole of Brazil stopped for Carnival, which was often more important than Christmas to the local people.
