A judge praised the courage of Ranjana Suraweera of Fobbing Farm Close, Nethermayne, Basildon, whose wife bled to death following the birth of their twins before awarding him £1m.
Sitting at the High Court, Mr Justice Astill praised widower for bringing up his children alone after his wife Dr Sandhya Priyadarshini Senanayake, 39, died during the delivery of the twins at Basildon Hospital in December 2002 where she was an anaesthetist.
