An angry mum has hit out at a Corringham school after staff failed to detect that her son had broken his wrist and sent him back to class.
Seven-year-old Beau Holland, who attends Giffards Infants School, was playing with friends in the playground during his lunchbreak when he fell and damaged his wrist.
He was treated by the school's first aider for a grazed knee and bruised wrist before being sent back to continue with lessons.
Despite persistent complaints from Beau throughout the afternoon that he was unable to write because his wrist was too painful, nobody at the school double-checked the injury.
The full of extent of Beau's injury was only discovered when horrified mum, Donna, collected him after school.
She said: "I could see his wrist wasn't right straight away and knew it had to be treated immediately."
Doctors at Basildon Hospital discovered Beau had two breaks to his wrist and immediately plastered the injury.
Acting headteacher, Graham Morris has promised to investigate.
A spokesman for Thurrock Council's education service said: "The school followed the procedures for dealing with playground injuries and the child received first aid treatment from a qualified first aider."
