Geraint Williams today declared himself 'a happy man' after Colchester United maintained their unbeaten pre-season run.

The U's assistant manager was delighted to see a strike from substitute Jamie Guy salvage a 1-1 draw at Ridgeons League side Halstead Town last night.

Gareth Heath fired the hosts in front after 75 minutes, but with time running out Guy saw his deflected shot deceive Halstead stopper Dave Walton and trickle into the net.

Guy came off the bench midway through the first half, replacing former Dulwich Hamlet defender George Elokobi, who took a knee in the back during an aerial challenge.

Williams said: "Pre-season games are all about fitness and getting the principles right, but no-one likes to lose.

"There was an element of luck about the goal, but it did the job for us."
