Operations at Bradwell Nuclear Power Station have been temporarily suspended.

Although defuelling is currently ahead of schedule and exceeding targets, Bradwell's new manager Ray Jepps has made it one of his priorities to examine how defuelling operations and associated work on the station is progressing.

While this is under way, Mr Jepps and his lead team have decided to temporarily suspend operations on site while they conduct a thorough examination of all aspects of work being carried out.

They will look for any areas of improvement in how staff at the station go about their work to ensure the highest standards are maintained.

They will also be scrutinising details of past events which have happened to see what relevant lessons have been learnt.

Mr Jepps has written to all members of the Local Community Liaison Committee and explained his plans.

A spokesman said: "He wants staff to have the opportunity to examine the safety culture on site so that the long history of safe operations at Bradwell can be maintained."
