Police have challenged troublemakers to behave or risk constant monitoring after violence erupted in South Woodham Ferrers at the weekend.

Drunken revellers brawled in the town centre in the early hours and a 26-year-old man was assaulted, suffering broken teeth and injuries to his nose.

Smaller fights broke out as a crowd of 40 to 50 youngsters gathered near the Oakland Hotel, where five were arrested and given £80 fixed penalty notices for public order offences.

Acting Inspector Marion Tyson said: "We are having problems around the Village Hall and Hullbridge Road areas, and I challenge youngsters to behave or else they will not be able to continue enjoying the facilities where they like to congregate.

"They can still have fun, but no vandalism, graffiti spraying or general nuisance, or they risk constant police visitors.

" I invite the law-abiding to call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 and identify the troublemakers."
