Maldon District Council has appointed John Delwyn Burbidge as its new chief executive.
Mr Burbidge, currently chief executive of Melton Borough Council in Leicestershire, received unanimous support from councillors at a full council meeting on Tuesday.
He said: ''Local Government faces a number of changes and I am looking forward to meeting these challenges and build on the excellent reputation Maldon District Council has for the delivery of services to it residents.''
Cllr Bob Boyce, Leader of Maldon District Council, said: ''Employing the right person for this important role is a crucial decision for the District, so I am delighted to announce the appointment.''
Mr Burbidge will officially take up his post on November 1.
