Judges were today due to view Colchester's floral splendour as the town makes its first entry in the Anglia in Bloom competition.
The bid has been made by the In Bloom Action Team, led by the Colchester Town Partnership.
The judges will be taken on a tour of the town, viewing floral displays in the town centre and Castle Park, as well as visiting environmental work like Gosbecks Archaeological Park.
Their arrival will be heralded by Colchester's town crier and the judges will be met by the mayor and mayoress and the Town Watch.
Town manager Chris Rawlinson said: "This year's Anglia in Bloom competition has seen some real achievements in partnership working in Colchester.
"Our action team includes representatives from the borough council, retailers, residents, flower clubs, street care, schools and environmental groups.
"We have been supported throughout by the local Chamber of Commerce and the local media."
