An anxious resident wants to cut speeds on a road used by up to 1,500 schoolchildren.
Mary Stevens, of Wick Lane, Dovercourt, said she has seen an increasing number of vehicles in the middle part of her street, many exceeding the 30mph limit.
The Harwich School and St Joseph's Primary School are nearby and Mrs Stevens claimed it is too dangerous for their pupils to cycle along the road.
Now she is demanding action and has already collected a petition containing the signatures of every available neighbour.
She said: "In the last four months we've had two accidents on this road, all created by making it a third exit from Harwich Quay.
"We have a sign warning drivers there are ducks around but no signs to stop the speeding."
She added: "Not one resident said no to the petition so we can't all be wrong."
