A shoplifter has been banned from every Co-op store in Colchester.

Damien Say had an anti-social behaviour order (Asbo) slapped on him at court yesterday.

Store ban - Damien Say hands out a beer

The 22-year-old, of Monkwick Avenue, Colchester, admitted stealing packs of lager from several of the stores in the borough.

Say drank a can of lager on the steps of the Colchester court with friends following an earlier hearing last month.

He admitted stealing a pack of Stella Artois from the Old Heath Road Co-op on March 10 and stealing another pack from a store in the town on March 5.

He also admitted stealing a pack of Fosters and a pack of Stella from the Co-op in Old Heath Road on a different occasion.

Say admitted burgling the Wilson Marriage Centre, in Barrack Street, for £5 of sweets and drinks.

The court heard police traced him from blood left at the scene, which matched his DNA.

The order bans Say from any Co-op food store, retail outlet or petrol filling station in the borough for two years.

He could face jail if he breaches the order.

Roger Brice, mitigating, said in court: "The offences do not bear the hallmark of any degree of sophistication, more of a disadvantaged young man with some disabilities."

Say was ordered to pay £45 costs and to carry out a community rehabilitation order for 18 months
