The campaign for a Canvey town council was today gathering pace following a meeting to discuss a battle plan.
The five lead members of Canvey Island Town Council Campaign are planning to write to Government ministers and organise petitions.
The council would be similar to the one in Leigh, which is consulted on highways and planning issues but has no power over main services like rubbish collection and education.
Steering committee member Irene Willis said: "The most important thing is we have now got a committee which can work together to decide the way forward."
