A Maldon woman was taken to hospital after her convertible car was in collision with a lorry in White Roding on the A1060.
Following the incident, which occurred at 4.40pm on Tuesday, fire fighters had to cut the door from her car before paramedics placed her on a long board and fitted a neck collar to immobilise her spine.
Essex senior duty manager Daniel Gore said: "The 41-year-old Maldon woman was taken to Broomfield Hospital in Chelmsford complaining of chest and shoulder injuries.
"The car was a real mess after the crash and it is lucky the woman did not suffer more serious injuries."
