Stansted looks set for another busy summer, with passenger numbers at the airport continuing to grow last month.

During June, the airport saw 1.84m passengers passing through it, a 10.7 per cent increase on the same month last year.

There were two landmark events the airport welcoming its 20-millionth passenger in a 12 month period on June 10, and its busiest day ever on June 25, when a record 67,831 passengers used the terminal.

New services launched during June included Euromanx's twice-daily flights to the Isle of Man, and the first direct link to Vancouver from Stansted courtesy of a fortnightly service from Zoom.

Mark Pendlington, director of communications at BAA Stansted, said: "The record figures released... prove the ever-increasing popularity of Stansted.

"They also re-confirm how right we have been to announce our intention to apply for permission to increase capacity beyond the current limit of 25m passengers per annum."

Ryanair, Stansted's largest airline, carried 24 per cent more passengers in June 2004 compared with the same month last year.
