Motorists are set to see major improvements to the roads they use thanks to an extra £15.5m being spent by Essex County Council.
And although Marks Tey will not get the 30mph limit the Evening Gazette has been campaigning for, it is to get £200,000 of safety measures.
Essex county councillor Rodney Bass, cabinet member for highways and transportation, welcomed the initiative, which was approved by the cabinet yesterday
He said: "This extra funding will make a real difference to people's lives up and down the county by improving the highways network for both private and public transport.
"It is a further demonstration of the county council's commitment to beating congestion and improving our highways."
The roads set to be improved in north and mid Essex are:
B1026 Layer Road, Colchester, the section from Drury Road to John Kent Avenue. Resurfacing work costing £252,000
B1026 Layer Road, the section from John Kent Avenue to Abberton Reservoir. Surface dressing (improvements) costing £87,000.
