Angry residents voiced their concerns over a planning application for a travellers' site in Stanway.
More than 30 people attended last night's Stanway Council's planning committee meeting to register their protests.
The controversial application seeks permission from Colchester Council to change the use of the plot of land in Turkey Cock Lane to a travellers' site.
It would have hardstandings for six caravans for the travelling families, along with two toilet and shower blocks.
Many residents who turned up at last night's meeting were unhappy there were already caravans on the site.
Keith Hall, who lives in Turkey Cock Lane, said: "I think it is wrong there are already caravans on the site when planning permission has not been given."
Those attending the meeting vowed to make their own representations to Colchester's planning chiefs on the application.
The views put forward will be discussed at the next Stanway Council planning committee meeting to be held on Tuesday, August 3, where members will debate the application.
The landowners declined to speak to the Evening Gazette.
