There was little chance of anybody at St Katherine's Primary school escaping without showing their support for the children's Clean Canvey Lake campaign.
Sign here - Charlotte Cockell and Hollie Russell hand their petition to Castle Point mayor Wendy Goodwin Picture: LUAN MARSHALL
Youngsters as young as five, at the school in Hilton Road, Canvey, signed the petition started by a group of pupils who had watched horrified as a resident dumped her rubbish in the lake, off Denham Road.
The petition, signed by more than 200 people, was presented to Castle Point's mayor Wendy Goodwin.
Headteacher Rosemary Morgan said: "The children do a lot of environmental projects at the lake and many have seen cygnets hatching and growing into swans there.
"This was a good way for them to learn the appropriate way to act about something which has upset them."
