Wivenhoe town regatta organisers were today reviewing safety after a woman was hospitalised by a tug of war rope.
Evening Gazette photographer Seana Hughes was knocked to the ground when the rope caught her feet at the climax of the Wivenhoe to Fingringhoe tug of war.
She was treated for cuts to her head at the scene by St John Ambulance members and was then taken to hospital, where she was treated and later discharged.
The traditional tug takes place annually and marked the beginning of Wivenhoe Regatta week.
Teams of eight from the Black Buoy in Wivenhoe and The Whalebone in Fingringhoe competed in the annual cross-river tug of war using a 250ft rope.
After three pulls the Wivenhoe team won three-nil.
Regatta committee chairman Richard Barnard said the incident was a sad end to the event.
He said safety would be highon the agenda when the committee met after the regatta, which continues all this week.
