Essex failed to reach the Twenty20 semi-finals after losing against Leicestershire at Grace Road last night.
Opener Darren Maddy hit a 48-ball 84 including 12 fours and three sixes as the home side recorded 180-6 after losing the toss.
Essex, who were 33-3 at one stage, could manage only 166-7 despite an impressive 95-run partnership between Andy Flower (58) and Paul Grayson (55).
Opening bowler for Leicestershire, Mark Cleary, returned 3-36, snaring Essex captain Ronnie Irani first ball which was a set back for Essex in their run-chase.
