A new community post office was opened in Stisted yesterday, the first time postal services have been available in the village since the closure of the old post office in 2002.

At 2pm yesterday Ron Sanderson, chairman of Stisted Parish Council, cut the ribbon on a newly-refurbished room in the Montefiore Institute, The Street, Stisted.

The new post office will open for two afternoons a week on Monday and Thursday and will be manned by volunteers and will offer all the normal post office services except road licences.

Jennie Alderton, a volunteer involved with opening the post office, said: "We are very grateful to the postmaster Christine Attwater for setting up the office.

"It's a marvellous facility for the village and we are very pleased to have it back."
