Visitors to a charity event couldn't resist a chuckle as their MP was locked in the stocks.

Taking stock - MP Bob Spink in the stocks with Phab chairman Paul Sands Picture: STEVE O'CONNELL

Tory Castle Point MP Bob Spink was on hand for the 2004 Southend Phab Fair.

The charity event, in aid of disabled people's group Phab, was held to raise funds to help to buy a new minibus to ferry members on trips and excursions.

Performances by majorettes, belly dancers and line dancers, as well as a taekwondo demonstration all delighted the crowds.

MP Mr Spink opened the event, held at King John School, in Shipwrights Drive, Thundersley, before spending half-an-hour being pelted by sponges in the stocks.
