A new scheme is set to get underway in a bid to improve security and living conditions on Clacton's largest housing estate.
A total of £18,000 has been found to upgrade lighting across the Percy King estate.
It is in an area covered by closed circuit television cameras and will mean that pictures will be of a quality which can be used in police prosecutions.
Harry Shearing, portfolio holder for technical and contract services at Tendring Council, said it should make a real difference for residents.
"I had hoped that we would have been able to improve lighting on part of the estate but now in close partnership with Essex County Council can do the whole area which is really good news," he said.
"We have £6,000 from our locally determined budget and County Hall is coming up with the other £12,000 and it should make a real difference."
