Jacqui Agyepong, who competed in the 1992 and 1996 games, was ready, steady and set to go to Great Bentley Primary School yesterday.
The top sprint hurdler was at the Plough Road school to put the youngsters under starters orders and even raced with them.
Headteacher Diana Cleaver said: "It was a fantastic, fun day and Jacqui was absolutely wonderful. She had a great affinity with the children.
"When she raced with them, she let them win so the children went home saying they beat an Olympic athlete!"
The themed day saw the pupils start by parading an Olympic torch and classes were put into countries to compete.
