Rochford District Council is set to oppose plans for Southend Hospital's multi-million pound diagnostic and treatment centre at Fossetts Farm.

The district council has been consulted on the plan by Southend because the site is near to the boundary of the two areas.

In a report to the planning committee on July 27, head of planning Shaun Scrutton said: "The new building would be modernist in terms of the design and external appearance and will be visible from various points within the Rochford district.

"It is considered that, given the height of 30 metres, mass and bulk, thee proposed new buildings would dominate this part of the site and would be visually intrusive to the views from the Rochford area."

He said the proposed new road across the site would not help to alleviate the long standing problem of the volume of traffic using Sutton Road in both directions.

Additional traffic created by this use was likely to have an adverse impact on the highway network. Members of the committee will be recommended to oppose the scheme because of impact on the countryside.
