A 44-year-old woman was today recovering in hospital after her horse fell and landed on her during a riding lesson.
The rider was knocked unconscious following the accident at the Ramsden Riding School, Dowsett Lane, Ramsden Heath, at around 3pm yesterday.
It is believed the horse slipped and fell causing the woman to fall off her saddle and underneath the animal.
However, she was not trapped underneath the horse, which quickly regained its footing and was led away.
Loose horses were cleared from the area to give the Essex Air Ambulance space to land.
The woman, who was fully conscious and with no obvious injuries, was able to speak with the ambulance crew.
She was placed on a spinal board as a precaution before being flown to Broomfield Hospital.
