Police are appealing for witnesses after an attempt was made to run over four off duty officers in Chelmsford.

The male Pcs were dressed in sports clothing and jogging along Chelmer Village Way when the incident happened.

As they reached the roundabout at Chancellor Avenue a white Nissan Micra mounted the curb and attempted to run them down.

The officers managed to move out of the way and the car drove off in the direction of the BP garage.

The incident happened at about 7.45pm on July 10 and police spokeswoman Dawn Clark urged any witnesses to the 'vindictive' attack to come forward.

An 18-year-old man was arrested shortly afterwards and has been released pending further enquiries.
