Spencer Prior will again be aiming to impress for the Shrimpers tonight as the League Two side host Canvey Island at Roots Hall.
The experienced centre back played 45 minutes for the Blues at East Thurrock on Saturday and is keen to extend his latest spell with the Seasiders.
"If something could be sorted then I would definitely be interested in signing for Southend," confirmed the 33-year-old. "I'm living in Basildon at the moment and I obviously have fond memories from my time here before. But we will just have to wait to see what happens.
"I'm trying to improve my fitness right now and then we'll take things from there."
Prior is believed to have attracted interest from a number of clubs including Brentford, Peterborough and Colchester following his release from the Championship's Cardiff City at the end of last season.
His most recent trial was at Layer Road, where he admits he was impressed with Blues' Essex rivals.
"Phil Parkinson came across really well and had some fresh ideas on the game," he said. "We're talking to a few clubs right now but I've been enjoying training with Southend."
