Southend United have finally agreed a settlement sum with former boss Steve Wignall.

The ex Colchester United chief endured a miserable short stint in the Roots Hall hot-seat and was attempting to counter-sue the Seasiders after they refused to pay his outstanding wages following his dismissal last November.

But the dispute has now ended according to Blues co-owner Ron Martin who criticised Wignall for failing to motivate his newly assembled squad of players which struggled towards the foot of the basement League standards.

"Southend United Football Club Limited and Steve Wignall are pleased to confirm that settlement of their dispute has now been concluded on satisfactory and amicable terms," said Martin.

"The details of the settlement will remain confidential and no further statement will be made by either party," he added.

The end of the dispute means there is no further prospect of club funds being spent on a potentially court action to resolve the long-running argument.
