Visitors to a war-themed event showed the traditional British spirit by turning up in their hundreds despite the storms at the weekend.
More than 700 people took part in The Home Front, at St Botolph's Priory, Colchester, in spite of the appalling weather conditions.
Marie Taylor, of Colchester Museums, said: "We had a great day. The weather was absolutely atrocious for an outdoor event, but the number of visitors was amazing. The British attitude came through very much."
Marquees and indoor displays saved the day. People ventured outside whenever there was a dry spell at Saturday's event.
Visitors were invited to re-enter the war time-zone and take part reflecting on the home front and the make do and mend mentality free of charge
Vehicles, guns and weapons used in battle were on show at the Colchester Council museum services event along with air raid wardens, royal artillerymen, and land army girls telling all about their experiences.
