Nothing could stop Harwich residents from supporting their hospital.

In spite of a new venue and atrocious weather, the Harwich Hospital Fete enjoyed as good attendance as ever.

And, with some funds still to come in, a cash injection of more than £5,500 was raised for equipment for the hospital, currently being rebuilt at Main Road, Dovercourt.

With work in full flow at the site, for the first time the popular annual event was moved to the Mayflower School.

However, Sheena Parsons, press officer for the organisers Harwich and District Fellowship for the Sick, believed it had not made a difference.

She said: "I was amazed at all the people who turned out in the torrential rain.

"Everything was against it but the venue was great, it was very well attended and we've had a good result."

The fete included all the regular features, such as a coconut shy, face painting, bouncy castle, cake stall and football penalty competition.
