Firefighters believe the fire, which swept through the 40ft storage hut in Gloucester Park, was started deliberately.
Flames and a fierce glow could be seen from Nevendon Road, as fire crews from Basildon arrived early on Sunday.
Sub-officer Nick Beaver said: "The building was well alight when we got there. It was a very fierce fire and the flames were very high."
