King Edmund School were streets ahead in the annual Hi-Tec/Rickard Keen Southend Business relay.
Your turn - Will Reed hands the baton to Emma Hawes
The five-strong team from the Rochford school headed a field of 20 around a two-mile course through central Southend, and completed the five laps in 75 mins, 11 sec.
Dan Quinn produced the fastest individual lap with a spectacular time of 12:38 over a difficult course through the town.
The route started at the Cliffs Pavilion, along Marine Parade and round the building works on Pier Hill. On the waterfront they were buffeted by strong winds as they passed the cliffs on Western Esplanade before climbing Shorefield Road to return to the Cliffs Pavilion and hand on to the next runner.
This was the third time the race had been held. Teams raised money for local charities, including the Peaceful Place care home for Alzheimers sufferers, the New Empire Theatre and the Southend Fund.
