Grace Knightbridge has earned herself a call-up to the national gymnastics squad world-class start programme after a fantastic showing at the Junior British Championships.

Leap - Grace Knightbridge shows her skill on the beam

The 15-year-old, from the Colchester School of Gymnastics, bagged the place by finishing tenth in the all around competition at Guildford Specturm Leisure Centre.

There was further success for Knightbridge on the apparatus when she claimed a bronze in the vault.

Each competitor had to achieve a top-eight finish in each of the pieces to reach the final.

Knightbridge did this by claiming a score of 8.825, placing her third, on the vault and an 8.00, placing her seventh, on the beam.

Fellow Colchester School of Gymnastics student Jennifer Schadek took part in the senior event.

It was the first time that Schadek has competed for five years, deciding to retire from the sport after sustaining a wrist injury in the national championships in 1999.

Schadek, however, started training again last year and qualified for the competition where the British team for the Olympics is selected.
