Basildon Hospital has struck a deal with the town's college to use parking spaces to cope while developing its £60million specialist heart centre.
Building work on the regional cardiac centre is due to start next year. Despite the centre having its own multi-storey car park, hospital bosses predict work on the building at the back of the hospital will put pressure on current parking facilities.
The hospital has teamed up with the Nethermayne campus of Basildon and Thurrock College to secure additional parking.
A hospital spokeswoman said: "An application for temporary car parking has been lodged with the local authority."
The heart centre, which will be able to treat an estimated 76 per cent of the Essex population, is due to open by 2007.
