Jubilant green fingered residents and businesses grew with pride as their blooming gardens were named the best in Billericay.
The winners of the Brentwood Gazette-backed 2004 Billericay in Bloom competition have been announced and there are a total of 10 winners who scooped the top prizes in the categories up for grabs.
Billericay Town Council organises the event and officers said the judges were impressed by the high standard of flower beds, hanging baskets and pots in the town's gardens.
Connie Leeder, 92, from Norsey Road, beat off competition from other keen gardeners to win the Gazette-sponsored best sheltered accommodation garden.
She said: 'I'm very happy to win. I only have a little garden but I love gardening - it is so rewarding to see things grow from seeds into a bloom of colour.'
