A full review of on street parking charges has been approved by Brentwood Council, but questions are still being asked about how the ruling Conservative administration will balance the books.
Lib Dem councillors want to know whether the Tories are planning to use savings made elsewhere in the council to subsidise scrapping parking charges.
Chairman of the Environment Panel, Cllr Dominic Good, insisted the Tories would put forward fully costed proposals once consultations had been held. Groups being consulted include the Chamber of Commerce, the Town Centre Partnership, the Save Brentwood Action Group and Shenfield based campaign group STOPP.
He said: 'The way we propose to do this consultation is on an area by area basis. We will hold informal meetings to try and tease out the underlying issues. We will come back with financial projections as a result of our consultations.'
