A firm employing 140 people will leave Colchester if a travellers' site is built near Severalls industrial estate.
Paul Baker, boss of Rapid Electronics, Severalls Lane, Colchester, today declared he would pull out of town without hesitation if one of two proposed locations in the area were chosen to house travellers.
Speaking at a Colchester Chamber of Commerce meeting today, he said: "We will move and I very much doubt we'll be able to take our staff with us.
"We will go further north and I can't stress strongly enough that when we do, Colchester will lose 140 jobs."
The meeting, at Harry's Bar, The Crescent, was held to present a report on firms' objections to the travellers' site plans to Kevin Bentley, Colchester Council's portfolio-holder for business, tourism and leisure.
