Staff are getting more work done and patients are getting their medicines quicker thanks to a hi-tech robot which has moved into the pharmacy at Basildon Hospital.
The £250,000 robot is part of a £1.4million refurbishment and improvement programme that has just been completed after two years.
When a prescription is logged, staff in the pharmacy order the medication and print out a label for the patient from the computer.
The robot then picks the drugs and places them on a conveyer belt, which carries them to the dispenser's workstation within seconds.
Clinical sciences directorate manager, Geoff Sharman, said: "It is going very well and staff are really pleased. They are getting through their work a lot quicker and patients' waiting times are less than they were."
