The final part of a £130 million road between Braintree and Dunmow has been opened, ending months of misery for local residents.
The 15-mile dual carriageway to the M11 has taken nearly three years to complete.
Traffic can now access the road south of Dunmow via two roundabouts on the A130.
Residents and local businesses have already noticed the difference with fewer drivers cutting through the town to join the A120.
Jackie Purkiss, who lives in Hoblongs Cottages, next to the newly opened roundabouts, said there has been a drop in traffic through the town.
She said: ''I drive through Dunmow between 8am and 9am every morning and I can get through the town much better now, we really needed it."
