Canvey Island rugby club have named Dave Gillespie as the new man to lead them forward as skipper of the Essex Two side.
Gillespie will be joined by Jamie Saunders, who is set to return to the island as player/coach, following a spell in Torquay, as the club strives to win promotion back to Essex One at the first attempt.
Training has already begun at Canvey's Climmen Road base, with a fitness workout on a Tuesday night and ball work on Thursday evenings. Both sessions start at 7.30pm.
Canvey have numerous teams, catering from youth through to seniors and veterans, and all newcomers are welcome. For more information call club captain Mick Bedford on 01268 698858.
