Essex go into their vital Twenty20 Cup clash with Sussex Sharks boosted by the news they are in the hunt for Australian pace ace Brett Lee.
Ronnie Irani - Said Essex have been in touch with Mark Waugh about the availability of Brett Lee
And promising West Indies quickie Tino Best could be high on the county's wanted list as well.
Essex are in the market to sign a top-quality bowler to replace their talented young Test leg-spinner Danish Kaneria, who is unlikely to return this season because of his international commitments with Pakistan.
County Ground skipper Ronnie Irani revealed to the Evening Gazette: "It's extremely unlikely that we could sign another spinner as good as Kaneria so Brett Lee would be a great scoop for us.
"We have been in touch with Mark Waugh, a previous Essex/Australian overseas star, to ask about him and we are now waiting for him to get back to us.
"Lee has been out of action since he suffered an ankle injury during the tour to Sri Lanka four months ago, but he has made it known that he is very keen to play county cricket this summer in an attempt to prove his fitness for Australia's tour of India in October."
