Essex has yet again thrown cold water on hopes that accident-prone Canvey Way could be turned into a dual carriageway.
Canvey West councillor Ray Howard made the latest request for dualling at this week's full meeting of Essex County Council.
Mr Howard asked for dualling to be reconsidered "in the light of the accident last Saturday morning, which not only brought Canvey Island to a standstill, but also virtually the whole of south Essex".
He added: "I am led to believe that, had the road been dualled, this accident could not have happened."
However, Rodney Bass, the county council's cabinet member for highways and transportation, said: "I pay tribute to him for his persistence, but I remain of the view that dualling Canvey Way is not a practical option.
