Arriva is to use older buses in Southend to save money and avoid cutting services.

The company claims the move is necessary because it is not getting enough revenue from passengers.

The company will replace some of its current buses with older models in service around the country, over the next few months.

Kevin Hawkins, commercial director for the South East, said: "They will still be double-deckers. They are up to our normal standards."

The company also announced the number 14 service from Great Wakering to Southend will no longer go as far as the hospital, but will end in the town centre starting from July 25.
