A businessman has been picking up the pieces after organised thieves broke into a warehouse and stole 800 motor scooters worth £80,000.

Following the theft at GT Commercials, in Vange Park Road, Vange, police have warned parents to be on the lookout for people trying to sell the bikes.

The theft took place overnight on Monday when it is believed a gang arrived at the premises, near the Five Bells, with a lorry.

The group broke into a storage unit and removed the haul of Ocean Crown battery-operated electric-motorised scooters.

The small bikes are valued at £100 each and come in red, silver, black and blue. It is thought the gang then loaded the items on to the van before driving off.

Anyone who saw anyone acting suspiciously near the warehouse on the night of theft is asked to call Grays Police on 01375 391212.
