Pupils at the Thundersley Infant School released 150 balloons complete with tags asking anyone who found them to send them back.
Five-year-old Dylan Camp had his balloon returned all the way from Turin in Italy, making him the lucky winner of a goody bag filled with treats.
The event was organised by Heather Pownall, chairman of the Essex branch of the Cleft Lip and Palete Association.
