A national performance watchdog which gave Braintree Council an overall "good" rating has been recognised by councillors.

The Audit Commission's comprehensive performance assessment (CPA) of Braintree Council found it was doing well in some areas.

The council is an "enthusiastic partner," receptive to new ideas and ways of working to deliver services that better meet local needs. Councillors were found to be "committed to making a difference to local people."

It has sound financial management and funding is allocated according to its priorities.

However, progress with meeting the "decent homes" standard needs to be advanced if Government targets are to be met.

The cabinet endorsed a corporate improvement plan arising out of the CPA report as a working document and the improvement plan should be monitored through its quarterly performance report.
