Colchester United boss Phil Parkinson today underlined his ambition to bring 'one or two' new faces to Layer Road.

He warned that while he has quality in his squad for the forthcoming campaign, there are still not the numbers he wants.

Parkinson, speaking after last night's 1-0 pre-season friendly win at Braintree Town, told the Evening Gazette: 'I think we are ahead in what we set out to achieve.

'We are still looking to bring in one or two players but, as we saw last year, that doesn't happen in some cases until right before the start of the season.

'There is a need to strengthen things in terms of numbers. However, I do believe we have the quality here at the moment to get started.'
