Southchurch Park's Judith Hand and Sylvia Richardson were beaten doubles finalists at the East Anglian Croquet Federation and National Trust competition.
The pair were up against 16 other teams at Anglesey Abbey, near Cambridge, and won their block, before successfully negotiating a close semi-final 9-8.
However, they were beaten by Downham in the final, 7-4, in a match hampered by pouring rain.
