A top transport expert has said the Harwich stretch of the A120 does not need dualling to accommodate extra port traffic.
An inquiry into the proposed expansion of Harwich International Port yesterday heard widening the road could cope with more vehicles.
It was suggested some of the major trunk road be dualled, but not the section between Horsley Cross and Ramsey.
Protestors opposed to development at Bathside Bay have argued the A120 would be too dangerous with additional port traffic.
Transport expert Stephen Dudhill, who has overseen the Traffic Impact Assessment (TIA) for the Bathside Bay container terminal plan, said: "The A120 is generally a safer road than one would expect given its character and the level of traffic flow which it is carrying."
